Dear Friends of Guitar Music,
After our successful "Ticket" series of songs for musicians who've been playing for about 3-4 years, we now present "Duets for the Young (At Heart)", a collection of duets for players who have been studying guitar for just 1-2 years.
The compositions consist of two sections and the players trade off on melody and accompaniment so each gets their chance at both types of parts. We recommend playing the melody by applying alternating strokes (apoyando). The initial pieces are in 1st position and pieces in higher positions follow, beginning with 7th position and moving down to 2nd position. We left out 6th position as it only would have been full of bar chords. We chose to move into the higher positions first because, although the notation is more difficult to read, it's easier to play in that range.
If you're ever unsure of the notation, the tablature is always there to help you. After these pieces you'll find new pieces in which have to change position and a short suite inspired by the seasons that concludes the book. The most important techniques will be presented as integral parts of the pieces (i.e. upstroke and downstroke slurs, playing in a single position, changing positions, harmonics).
