A brief history of Breitkopf & Härtel

Originally founded by Bernhard Christoph Breitkopf in 1719, and then taken over by Gottfried Christoph Härtel in 1795, Breitkopf & Härtel collaborated with many of the most important composers of the 18th and 19th centuries, including Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Frédéric Chopin. Today, Breitkopf & Härtel supports many important contemporary composers, including Helmut Lachenmann and Dimitri Terzakis amongst others.
