In 1997, British composer Rachel Portman became the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Original Score for her work on the motion picture “Emma.”
In 2019, the opera “Orlando” by the Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth (b.1968) was premiered at the Vienna State Opera, making her the first female composer to be commissioned to write a full-length opera.
And even at the start of the new millennium, we already have a wonderful young female composer who composed her first opera at the age of 7, the child prodigy Alma Deutscher (b.2005)!
The music publisher Furore, founded in 1986, has set itself the task of specifically publishing sheet music by classical and contemporary female composers.
