On 18 March 1963 Piet van Egmond improvised on Psalm 42 at the end of a classical organ concert in the Prinsessekerk in Amsterdam.
First the psalm melody is interwoven in a lively Händel-style setting. Then the melody is played in a different key, more freely, in a more contemplative manner, entirely in the spirit of the seventh verse ('O my soul, how thou art bowed down').
