This opera in three acts is based on a libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil inspired by the play 'The sunken bell' by the German playwright Gerhard Hauptmann. It tells a tragical story, similar to the 'Undine' legend: a water nymph, Rusalka, wants to become a human being because she has fallen in love with a prince. She can only survive by kissing the prince thus causing his death. Besides the famous aria 'Rusalka's sing to the moon' from the first act, this intermezzo from the second act defi-nitely deserves to be better known.
