Keystone

Keystone tells the story of the Odeon of Vriezenveen, a city in the Netherlands. "Odeon" is the name given to ancient Greek and Roman buildings that were used for activities such as singing, music and poetry. In 1998, several members of the "Vriezenveense Harmonie" chose this name for the cultural centre they were planning. The piece begins slowly in the bass instruments, but then speeds up in a contrapuntal passage in which the main motif changes from one instrumental group to another. After a slower section, the music speeds up again and leads to a majestic chorale symbolising the magnificent Odeon.
