'First-rate chamber music - Dean sets to music different aspects of remembrance: remembrance brought by motif, selectively triggered fright, the mysterious reverie. The harmony and colour that can be achieved by three strokes of the gong were translated by him in the score. The last movement has a quotation of Clara Schumann that lingers behind a modern tonal veil - a wonderful 'kunstgriff', an inventive artistic technique, by the composer whose piece was cheered like a home victory.'
