In Memoriam

When a person leaves us, there is mourning, consolation is sought and memories are awakened. Jacob de Haan brought these three things together in his work "In Memoriam". At first a slow theme in minor is heard, which stands for both grief and comfort. This is followed by a somewhat more energetic middle section in major, which describes beautiful memories of the deceased's life. Finally, the theme of the opening returns.
