Goddess of Jeju Island

This work is based on an old folk song from Jeju, an island off South Korea. The song is about the legend of the creation of the island by a volcano - the embodiment of a goddess. In addition to the folksong melody in various costumes, Jacob de Haan's work repeatedly features a majestic motif in honour of the goddess and powerful passages symbolize the enormous natural event that brought the island forth.
