"The Book of Job is my greatest work, the longest too. I have the impression of having achieved, succeeded in many things" said Caroline Charrière shortly before the creation of the work, which she considers as one of her main works and as a key step in her artistic development.
The composer has found the characteristic progression in front of a painful situation of life: the refusal, the revolt, the bargaining, the depression, the acceptance. Caroline Charrière admits an autobiographical character to the music; the music allows her to overcome difficult episodes of her life. Thanks to her exceptional sense of the link between words and music, she has created a global work of art that touches and moves. All performances (2001, 2003) have received standing ovations from the audience and performers.
The present edition of the Book of Job is probably the first published oratorio by a Swiss woman composer.
