“Inspiration is a guest that does not willingly visit the lazy.” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893)
Tchaikovsky was the one of the greatest and most prolific Russian Romantic Composers. Famous within his lifetime, his music was known far and wide. Browse our sheet music and scores, and explore all his magnificent works today.
Tchaikovsky’s emotional, romantic, playful Russian tradition, combined with Western musical structure, create a unique musical world. While the famous “Group of Five” (the “Novators” or “The Mighty Handful”), consisting of Balakirev, Borodin, Cui, Mussorgsky and Rimski-Korsakov) were making waves, Tchaikovsky chose to continue the Anton Rubinstein school, and he was also close friends with the Norwegian romantic giant Edvard Grieg.
