Composer pianist Janos Cegledy was born in Hungary grew up in New Zealand and lived most of his life in Japan. Educated at Victoria University, majoring in Music and Philosophy. Studied with composers Douglas Lilburn and David Farquhar. Diny Schramm, wife of the Leschetizky pupil, Paul Schramm was his principal piano teacher. As DAAD Stipendium recipient, he studied with Professor Andor Foldes at the Hochschule für Musik, Saarbrücken Germany. In 1967 he concertized in Australia and Japan, where he was appointed Professor at Toho Music University. In 1983 he also joined faculty of Musashino Academia Musicae, the world’s largest music school at the time and one of the most prestigious in Japan. His concert tours took him to Australasia and Middle East and USA where gave concerts and lecture recitals at such prestigious universities as Yale and University of Washington and at the Liszt Festival in Washington D.C.. He is President of the Leschetizky Society of Japan.
