Sometimes classic, sometimes modern!

As a laggard in the family of woodwind instruments, the saxophone inspired numerous composers in the 20th century to write works for its characteristic sound possibilities.

However, it is forgotten that these sound possibilities also unfold their effect in serious music before 1900. The famous British saxophonist and composer John Harle has put together a particularly charming selection from this repertoire in his Classical album.

John Harle is also closely associated with the contemporary saxophone repertoire. Luciano Berio and Richard Rodney Bennett, for example, dedicated their works to him. Berio's Sequenza IXb was also premiered by the dedicatee in 1981. A new sound experience from baroque to modern times!
