Béla Bartók's concept of these compositions is that of a series of five individual pieces. In preparing this corrected edition a copy of the last printed edition has been carefully examined and compared with the manuscripts (one sketch and two 'final copies'). Any errors determined to be in the previous edition have been corrected. The preparation of the corrections was done by Eve Beglarian and Nelson Dellamaggiore. (P. Bartók)
