Nekrolog op. 5 (1960)

For those who are familiar only with Pärt's music of the last 30 years, the uncompromisingly radical nature of this score will no doubt come as a surprise. Obituary is the first piece of Estonian dodecaphonic music, and also the young Pärt's first work for large orchestra. The performance of the piece drew harsh criticism from the Soviet press.
