The present sonata in F Major "pour le pianoforte et Bahson oblige, par Matern Marx " has three movements and is written in an early romantic style.
The 1st movement starts with a slow introduction and is written in the classical sonata form. The 2nd mvt. has the three part Liedform, whilst the 3rd is a rondo in which he inserts - quite unusual for a rondo - a harmonically interesting development-section (bars 134-157). The bassoon part is a rich stream of melodies, makes use of the ranges and colours of the instrument and is of upper-middle technical difficulty, highest note being c². The piano part is very demanding and asks for a fluent technique and a good sense of sonority.
