Commissioned by The Maryland State Boychoir in 2017, this striking Christmas piece sets a famous text by Ben Jonson. Jackson's attractive and largely diatonic harmonies combine with vivid word-setting, deft manipulations oftexture, and a colourful organ part to create a mood of gentle rapture, with a central section that explores more conflicted atmospheres.
