Danse vive was written in 1939 and had its first performance, as did most works of this time, as mentioned by the composer, in the famous occupation Art Salon at Ulica Nowy wiat 27 in Warsaw, led by Boles aw Woytowicz. Lech Miklaszewski made the first archival recording of the piece for Polish Radio in September 1946.
