The two lyric pieces for voice and piano collected in this new edition share more than just their instrumentation. Both pieces belong to Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Florentine period, a season of great creative fervor, and evince that distinctive feature which, while respecting the parameters of late 19th-century tradition, unfolds in a contemplative lyricism sustained by a harmonic structure that is always sophisticated but stripped of excess.
