Excalibur

This piece, written by Jan van der Roost for brass band, was awarded in the Adolphe Sax composition competition organised by the Flemish Brass Band Federation. As the title suggests, the sword of the legendary KingArthur was the inspiration for this spectacular piece. The music reflects the speed, power and agility of the royal sword. The expressive middle movement hints at the forgiveness and magnanimity of the medieval monarch and his beloved Guinevere.
