WAM is an investigation of Mozart - it uses hundreds of slightly altered fragments of, or parodies of, his music - and, instead of assembling them as he might if he were composing, allows them to float by rather as he might ifhe were daydreaming. Finnissy is making a point about the way we listen to music two hundred years after its composition - usually without a sense of the adventure of putting it together from scratch.
