It begins with the gentle flow of the river, followed by full statements of folk songs "Shenandoah" and "Simple Gifts." A brass cascade leads into a marvelous buildup to the climax of the piece, where both songs are heard simultaneously. Shenandoah's Simple Gifts has all the makings to become part of the standard reportoire.
