Jacob's Ladder to a Crescent

Toshio Mashima composed this work to mark the 40th anniversary of the wind orchestra of Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan. The composition is based on the biblical story of Jacob, who in a dream sees a ladder reaching up to heaven. Many artists have been inspired by this story or by the symbolism associated with it. The rungs of the ladder represent the virtues and show people the right path through life.
