The tango "Por una cabeza" was composed in 1935 for the musical film "Tango Bar". The premiere took place in July 1935, but just before that, on June 24, 1935, Carlos Gardel and his lyricist Alfredo Le Pera tragically died in a plane crash in Colombia. Gardel became a national hero, and the "Día Nacional del Tango" is celebrated worldwide on his birthday, December 11.
