Born in in Mataró (Barcelona, Spain), Moisès Bertran Ventejo holds the degrees of ’Professor Superior de Piano’, ’Professor Superior de Solfeig i Teoria de la Música’ and ’Professor Superior de Composició’ from the ’Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu de Barcelona’ & ’Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona’. He has also earned the degrees of ’Master in Music’ and ’Doctor in Musical Arts’ from ’The Hartt School’ (University of Hartford-USA). His main teachers have been Salvador Pueyo & James Sellars for composition, and Maria Jesús Crespo & Luiz de Moura Castro for piano performance. He has been awarded several prizes in Spain as well as in the United States including: 1st Prize Ma Dolors Calvet i Prats, 3rd edition, Vilafranca del Penedès, 2012 for his piece ’Six Preludes for Piano’; 3rd Prize at the International ’Oreste Sindici’ Composition Competition, Ceccano-Italia 2003; 2nd Prize at the 17th ’National Association of Composers USA’-Young Composers Competition (Los Angeles, California; USA), 1995; 2nd Prize at the International Composition Contest ’Francesc Civil / Ciutat de Girona’ (Girona, Catalunya; Spain), 1996; ’Norman J. Bayles Memorial Award for Composition’ (’The Hartt School’, West Hartford, Connecticut; USA), 1993; ’IX Premio Constitución’ (’Junta de Extremadura’, Extremadura; Spain), 1991. His compositional output, nowadays with more than 80 titles, ranges from piano solo works, chamber music, vocal music, choir and symphonic pieces.
